Accesibilidad

Accessibility is a priority for the Bronx Book Festival. If you have questions or concerns, please contact the festival planning committee at bronxbookfestplanningcommittee@gmail.com.

The festival takes place outdoors at Fordham Plaza and consists of a Main Stage with a seating area in front and a Picture Book Tent. The plaza includes an accessible, gender-neutral, automatic public toilet (like this) and is surrounded by restaurants and a supermarket. Service animals are welcome and permitted as determined by New York law and the ADA. Since the festival is being held in a public outdoor space, it will not be a scent-free environment. The plaza is level, with curb cutouts near the crosswalks. One section of the plaza, which will be used as a corridor behind the Main Stage seating, has cobble-stone like paving, but attendees approaching the plaza from E 189th Street will not need to cross it to reach the Main Stage or Picture Book Tent.

If arriving by car, the closest parking garage is at 1 Fordham Plaza, one block over. Attendees being dropped off at the festival may find the corner of Park Avenue and E. 189th Street to provide the clearest access to the Main Stage and Picture Book Tent. The Fordham Road Metro-North station is across E. Fordham Road from Fordham Plaza and designated a “full access” station by the MTA, including elevators and “other accessibility features for persons with mobility, visual, and hearing impairments.” The Bx9, Bx12, and Bx17 buses stop at the plaza, as well as the 60/61 Westchester WCDOT Bee-Line Bus. The Fordham Road B/D subway station is five blocks west of the plaza. The Fordham Road 4 subway station is eleven blocks west of the plaza.

There will be seating at the Main Stage clearly marked as reserved for attendees with related accessibility concerns, including those with invisible disabilities, as well as designated space for wheelchairs. Reserved accessible seating will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, and attendees will not be asked for any proof of need. For help with accessible seating on the day of the festival, please feel free to ask a festival volunteer for assistance or inquire at the check-in desk upon arrival.
